| Area VI makes a good showing at the National Convention
The National meeting in Charlotte NC was a well planned educational
meeting. Area II did a great job hosting the meeting on short
notice and treated all the attendees to a grand time.
Area VI made a great showing at the Awards luncheon hosted as
usual by the articulate and amusing Jim Wofford. With a total
of twenty eight high point awards to win AreaVI brought home ten
of them. This is an outstanding accomplishment and just might
send the USEA scrambling to wonder about the way they assign the
points.
With her Holsteiner stallion,Cimarron, Debbie Davis of Clovis
Ca had a remarkable year. Out of fifteen competitions the pair
achieved seven victories and never placed below fifth. Their consistency
earned them the 2005 Master Training Rider of the year and 2005
Training horse of the year.
After sixteen starts for the competitive year 15 year old, Kelly
Pugh of Tres Pinos, Ca. won the 2005 Junior Preliminary Rider
of the year. With her two mounts For Kicks and George Jacob she
represented Area VI in the NAYRC and finished the season by placing
3rd and 4th at the Galway Downs CCI*
Robyn Fisher is no stranger to the competitors in Area VI. With
6 victories out of nine starts Robyn rode the nine year old Holsteiner
mare Lady Calido to win the 2005 Preliminary Horse of the Year.
She topped the season with a win at the Galway Downs CCI*
Tiana Coudry had a list of triumphs. There is no doubt that Tiana
will conquer the next level of competition but in 2005 she won
the Galway Downs CIC** and placed second at the Galway Downs CCI**
making her the 2005 Intermediate Young Rider of the Year. The
2005 Intermediate Horse of the Year went to her 10 year old Irish
Sport horse by Master Imp. King Street is the other half of the
team that has been so successful that Tiana was the leading USEA
Young Rider of the Year.
With only six starts in the 2005 season this young rider held
on to her lead for this title. With her talented partner Kipling,
she placed 2nd at the CICW*** at Galway Downs, qualifying her
to compete at the FEI world Cup in Malmo, Sweden .

total of 430 points. Along with the trophy Debbie received a purse
of $4,000. and an Amerigo saddle.
The 2005 Intermediate Gold Cup Reserve Champion was Tiana Coudry

Newly established by Helen Ayer, in memory of her late husband
Neil Ayer, The Neil Ayer Course Designer Award commemorates Neil's
passion for cross-country design and is presented to a cross-country
designer in recognition of their innovation and vision.
Derek di Grazia, a native of Pebble Beach, California, began
his eventing career at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center riding
with Richard Collins at age 12. At 19 Derek left California to
attend Georgetown University, where he spent several years training
with Jim Wofford while at school. In 1977 he rode Thriller II
at the Ledyard Three-day Event, his first international three-day.
In 1980 he competed at the Luhmulen CCI*** in Germany, where he
placed fourth individually and helped the U.S. Team to a first
place finish. Then, in 1982, he began training with the USET and
Jack Le Goff. Two years later he was long listed for the Olympic
team with Thriller II and Sasquatch. The following year he won
the Rolex Kentucky CCI*** with Sasquatch and subsequently competed
at the 1986 World Championships at Gawler, Australia. In 1989
Derek won the Luhmuhlen CCI*** with Our Busby, and two years later
the pair won the Fair Hill CCI***.
We want to congratulate all of these Area VI members on their
successful year. They have shown the rest of the country we are
a force to be reckoned with.
